Overall Width Explained
Overall width is the total side-to-side width of a wheelchair at its widest point (measured outside-to-outside). It determines whether the chair fits through doorways, hallways, bathrooms, and other tight spaces.
Overall width is different from seat width, which measures only the usable sitting area inside the chair.

Quick start
Overall width (what you’re measuring)
Overall width is the outside-to-outside width of the wheelchair at its widest point. This is the clearance you need for narrow paths and doorways.
Measure the true widest point
The widest point can be the armrests/side guards, rear wheels or handrims, or accessories – measure the point that sticks out the most.
Measure your tightest spaces
Measure the narrowest places you must pass through (doorways, bathroom entries, hallways). Leave practical clearance so you’re not scraping frames, knuckles, or handrims during normal use.
